Hi all!

This weekend really got me off track. I lost sense of dates. Only yesterday did I realize that I had totally forgotten to design and post my Friday wallpaper in my other blog. I will make up for that this coming Friday. In the meantime I am trying to end the year by finishing my daily365 with 365 designs. I am 16 designs behind but I will push through between photos and sketches and end with 365. For now I worked a bit more on my typehero and I created his body. I even added a matching portfolio to his eyeglasses. I will keep playing with it here and there but please feel free to tell me what you think. Enjoy!

Hi all!

This morning while checking my Twitter feed and news, I saw a tweet that sparked my interest. It was by Oliver Reichenstein about WikiLeaks. The tweet only said Thank you. I am super curious so I had to click and check it out and I found it to be a link to OAS Joint Statement in regards to WikiLeaks. Whether or not you agree with WikiLeaks you cannot argue against the fact that we all have grown and come to believe in freedom of speech as a sacred right. Perhaps because I grew up in another country that though it is US Territory, has a different culture and set of values and we saw a different side of things down there, I am an idealist for civil and human rights. Thus, when our current administration promised government transparency because it kept us accountable as opposed to the past policy of secrecy, well, I believed them. Perhaps I am too much of an idealist. Who knows? The point is that today I saw this quote on the OAS site and I could not shake it from my head.
Every person has the right to freedom of investigation, of opinion, and of the expression and dissemination of ideas, by any medium whatsoever.
-American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man
In response to that I created a simple poster, actually two. One with the flag the way we are used to see it and another with the flag upside down because I sometimes think our governments in general are upside down and ours seems to be in distress. I do not intend to offend anyone, I am trying to exercise my right to freedom of expression in the medium I chose: my blog and my posters. Enjoy!

Hi all!

Today I am posting photo studies of our piano teacher playing piano. I got a little “lens flare” filter happy. What can I say? It is addictive. Anyhow, here are my studies. I am using some of the photos for her future web site and business card. Not to worry they will be minus lens flare! :-) Enjoy!

Hi all!

Continuing with my Type Hero idea I decided that I needed to put some funky glasses on the character to spot bad and good cases of typographic use. So I had some fun with Illustrator's pattern palette today. Now, if you can please help me decide which glasses are best? Please vote! Enjoy!

Hi all,

Yesterday Adrian Shaughnessy tweeted on his feed the following:
Who knew the great Alejandro Jodorowsky was on Twitter? Over 100k people, that’s who. @ Spanish only.
When I read Spanish only, it sparked my curiosity both about who might this person be and what was people saying. I clicked and found the following quote:
Tus palabras no tienen cabida en mi alma.
I was intrigued. So I searched the net for more information about Jodorowsky. I found plenty! But part of what I read was very sad. His upbringing and I felt sad about this. When I read about his life, then the quote made sense to me. Translated it would be something like this:
There is no room for your words in my soul.
Because I have to make everything visual, I looked up for an image of wood suggesting a wall or a door. The words are arranged filling up gaps. I guess I understand what he means with this quote. Sometimes things hurt just too much and sometimes one has to decide what is going to affect us and what will not. It sounds harsh but when one analyzes it, it is simply a way of keeping things from being painful. Well, as usual, enjoy!

Hi all,

Well, we are in the middle of a blizzard. Very cold and very hard to drive. Thus, my inspiration today was totally literal and blunt. A daily design about a blizzard. Enjoy!

Hi all,

My daughter continues helping me with my daily designs. :-) Here she made the drawing of a conductor boy when listening to Baby Bethoven's music. Check out his baton! Enjoy!

Hi all,

Organizing things around my office, I found some drawings I did some time ago and I thought I would share them in my daily designs. I grouped them all together here. Enjoy!

Hi all,

Today started out with new snow on the ground and lots of sun only to realize that there is a storm coming our way. Sigh! Oh! The winter! We have you every year and instead of feeling like we know you and welcome you, we seem to feel estranged from you more and more. On that note my sketch is about today. Enjoy!

Hi all,

While thinking about what I would like to do next for my dailies, I came across this quote by Edgar Allan Poe: “All that we see and seem is but a dream within a dream.” Kind of a cross between the movie Vanilla Sky and Inception. My daughter loved it so enjoy!

Hi all,

Today's design is about a Bible verse I often pray about silently. Search me oh Lord and see if there is a grievous way in me and lead me to in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24. I like that verse because it acknowledges our inability to be perfect and pure in our own. And because it is humbling and recognizes our need for God. I have been thinking about that lately. The photo is from http://www.sxc.hu/.

Hi all!

Last Tuesday the power went out in our block unexpectedly & we were left in the cold dark with flashlights & blankets. The kids were having fun with the flashlights & I thought & tweeted “we are four lights in the dark.” So, that's what I did. A simple design about that night. Enjoy!
